FAQ

Do you produce Organic honey?
All of our honey and hive products are produced in accordance with BioGro standards but we are not certified organic because we advocate honey bee conservation and urban beekeeping therefore our bee hives are located within Auckland City and unable to meet the 3km exclusion zone criteria.

Are you UMF Certified?
Unique Manuka Factor(UMF) is a brand, we are not associated with that brand and therefore our product does not have a UMF value. UMF doesn’t actually measure the antibacterial properties of honey, the actual test for antibacterial properties through International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) certified Labs is for 3 individual compounds called Non-Peroxide Activity (NPA), Methylglyoxal (MG) & Dihydroxyacetone (DHA).

All of our products are tested for these 3 chemical compounds through Analytica Labs. For a full explanation of how it all works please download.

What is DIFFERENT/ SPECIAL about Manuka honey?

All honey have antibacterial activity, due primarily to hydrogen peroxide formed in a slow-release manner by the glucose enzymes present in honey. However, unlike all other honey, Manuka honey has a unique non-peroxide activity that is only present in Manuka.

Why is non-peroxide activity so special?

The easiest way to explain this is basically the enzymes in non-peroxide activity do not breakdown with water, saliva, blood and body tissue meaning it will retain its antibacterial properties (where peroxide activity does not -losing its antibacterial properties). The non-peroxide antibacterial activity stays stable over time.

What chemicals are harmful to bees?
There are a lot of chemicals that may potentially be harmful, we have included a list for you to download & distribute.
